Emperor Justinian was the celebrated conqueror that is largely credited with his great triumphs and wits that marked the shift in era between the Roman and Byzantine empires (Document 2). Specifically, Justinian came into power at a time when the Byzantine kingdom was on the verge of its death and by way of his military might; he restored the empire to its position and exerted his leadership like previous empires of Rome (Document 3). The act of revival of the Byzantine Empire occurred after failed attempts to restore the Roman Empire to its original glory because of the existence of separate groups within the kingdom. Justinian succeeded in reviving Byzantine because he had a large military that often gave him triumph as he sought to expand the territories of the empire.
Other factors that led to the success include the presence of the popular Justinian Code which regulated the manner of existence within the society as well as the ecclesiastical writing and other great buildings (Document 5). He also led a lot of architectural initiatives within the empire that brought forth a series of memorable building and carvings such as the incredible ‘church of the holy wisdom’ (Document 4).Upon his rising to power as the sixth emperor of the empire, Justinian installed an aristocratic system in which governance was undertaken by noble person within the society. In particular, such persons served as close advisors to the emperor and the aggressive nature of Justinian enabled him to swiftly expand the territories of the Byzantine Empire (Document 6). The Byzantine leadership made the empire even more successful than the original empire which was Rome and the territories were enlarged as far across to the Mediterranean coast and other adjacent lands. During his time, Justinian also ensured the creation of several ancient city states within the newly established and revolutionized Byzantine Empire (Document 1).
