Explain how wilderness in North America became a centerpiece for defining American national identity.
At  his lecture at the Concord Lyceum, Henry David Thoreau summarized  Transcendentalism by stating: “in Wilderness is the preservation of the  World” (p. 84). Discuss Transcendentalism and its view of wilderness.
What do you observe about national identity and Transcendalism in the works of Innes and Ives?
