One major principle used to define healthcare quality is the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) Triple Aim. The Triple Aim is a framework that aims to improve the patient experience of care, improve the health of populations, and reduce the per capita cost of healthcare.
Another principle used to define healthcare quality is the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition of health, which states that health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. This definition emphasizes the importance of addressing the social and environmental factors that can impact a person’s health.
In terms of risk management, one major concept is the risk assessment process, which involves identifying potential risks, evaluating their likelihood and impact, and implementing strategies to mitigate or eliminate those risks. Another concept is the use of root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of adverse events or near misses, with the goal of implementing preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of future incidents.
