Otherwise in the opposing viewpoint article, “Statement of Senator Orrin G. Hatch in Support of Capital Punishment” explains how a criminal (Timothy McVeigh) was executed for doing a bombing in Oklahoma in April 19, 1995 (Evans, June, 13,2001). Evans (June 13,2001) mentions that Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people and was the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States. The federal criminal justice system approves the death penalty for the reason it should be punishable for what they commit toward the society and the people of the nation (Evans, June, 13,2001). As stated by Evans (June 13, 2001), the Oklahoma bombing attackers Terry L. Nicolas and Timothy J. McVeigh were convicted for the attack without plea bargaining and the process of the death penalty went fast and at the end it wasn’t expensive. The author acknowledges the timeline of how the death penalty was establish for the two attackers. Frist, in August 11, 1995 Timothy J. McVeigh and Terry L. Nicolas were charged for murder and conspiracy charges. Second in, April 24, 1997 the trial begins in Denver Colorado for Timothy L. McVeigh. Third, in June2, 1997 Timothy J. McVeigh were convicted for 11 counts of murders and the conspiracy and using a weapons of mass destruction. The judge sentence him to death on June13. Fourth, in November 2, 1997 Terry L. Nicolas trail begin in McAlester, Oklahoma. Fifth, in December 23, 1997 Terry J. Nicolas were convicted for federal charges of conspiracy with eight counts of involuntary manslaughter as a result he was sentence for life in prison. Sixth, in June 11, 2001 Timothy l. McVeigh was the first person to be executed for a federal crime in the United States (1963). Finally, Terry J. Nicolas was found guilty and 161 counts of murder the jury only spend 5 hours to come in a decision (Evans, June 23, 2001). As it has shown the death penalty don’t take too long to process and the people who are executed are not innocent. Death penalty is fair and has equality without bias for the convictions.
