The first assignment aims to assess analytical thinking and technical skills through the development of a
self-service analytics solution. You are required to understand the context, apply analytical thinking to
determine decision-making needs, analyse the given dataset using specified tools and uncover relevant
and actionable business insights.
Context
The volume of data generated by the international travel and tourism industry is enormous. However,
these datasets /databases do not provide adequate information on individual preferences for travel firm,
Trascovery. In order to remain profitable and attractive to all stakeholders in a highly competitive industry,
the management have unanimously agreed on the importance of customer-centric data to truly
understand travel expectations of local clientele. They have decided to conduct a preliminary analytics
exercise and the following survey was distributed among a selection of current and potential clients.

Tasks
1. Conduct a critical evaluation of the survey and its expected outcomes. Suggest improvements to
address gaps, inadequacies and/or errors.
2. Use any two of the three analytics tools covered in the tutorials, to develop two analytics solutionsto
deliver insights that decision-making requirements at Trascovery.
3. Recommend actionable insights based on findings uncovered from the analytics solutions. You need
to decide on the number of recommendations with a brief justification for your choice.
Recommendations should refer to visualisations (a combination of diagrams and charts) from your
analytics solutions. You may consider business strategy models and methods discussed in lectures
when formulating your insights.
• You may refer/cite relevant external sources that represent an additional layer of contextual
information in order to improve above tasks.
• Given the fictitious nature of this case study, you are free to make reasonable assumptions and
justifications.
Report guidelines
• The report should consist of an introduction, logically organized sections/topics, and a list of
references.
• Choose a fitting sequence of sections/topics for the body of the report. Three sections for the three
tasks are essential, you may add other sections that may seem relevant/required.
• Include diagrams, tables and charts from the analytics solutions to effectively present your
recommendations. (Use Alt + Print Screen to capture screenshots).
• A minimum of five pages.
• Written in Microsoft Word (font size 11) and submitted as a Word file. (Not PDF or any other format)
• Final submission will comprise three separate files, two analytics solution files and the report as a
Word file. Do not compress these files into a zipped archive, submit as three separate files.

Marking rubric
A grade will be awarded to each of the tasks and then an overall mark determined for the entire
assessment. The rubric below gives you an idea of what you must achieve to earn a certain ‘grade’.
As a general rule, to meet a ‘C’, you must first satisfy the requirements of a ‘D’. And for an ‘A’, you must
first satisfy the requirements of a ‘B’, which must of course first meet the requirements of a ‘C’ and so on.
