Description
Introduction (with the poem’s title/poet’s name, a little context for the poem, and the thesis statement that answers the question and thus gives the direction for your paper to follow)
Several body paragraphs, each of which has a topic sentence stating the focus of the paragraph (which should be clearly relevant to the thesis). The body paragraphs should be based around idea NOT the sequence of the poem.
Each paragraph should incorporate citation (which will you allow you to talk clearly and in a focused way about specific parts of the poem).
Remember to explain and discuss what you see in the citation, and to explain and discuss what you find by applying the literary elements.
Keep developing your view (that was stated in the thesis) in each body paragraph – explain and discuss this with your reader (don’t expect them to guess or to know…)
Each paragraph should have a useful closing sentence which could perhaps remind the reader how the paragraph aids your thesis, or sets up a connection to the next paragraph.
Conclusion (in which you summarize the ideas used in your body paragraphs, and show how together they developed your thesis. Restate that thesis in new words by the end of your conclusion.)
Please note: there should be no citation, explanation, or discussion in the introduction or conclusion.
